The Surf Club at Muriwai
The main driveway to the club – Jack Butt Lane is now open again.Access via the Village Green from Coast Road (by the Tennis Courts) will also stay open (it will likely close once the Regional Park reopens and the cordon at the top of Waitea is removed).Parking is limited at the club and the front lawn is a bit wet still, so overflow parking is at the Village Green. All roads around the club are in good condition and not flooded, drivable in all vehicles including large trucks. The Surf Club at Muriwai
The Surf Club at Muriwai flooded again yesterday. Thanks to the speedy response of many locals with spades and diggers they managed to divert a lot of water around the club and at the village green down another path. While the club still flooded there was a lot less silt and mud than last time. There has been a busy team cleaning the club today and it is back up and running. Thanks to everyone that helped out!The committee will work to prevent this happening again, some of the earth works that were undertaken yesterday should help prevent this but more work and a longer term plan will also be needed.Mayor Wayne Brown came out to Muriwai today and visited the surf club. We raised a number of issues and concerns the Muriwai Community has and also some issues around the surf club (like the flooding)Access:Jack Butt Lane has flooded again. It is about 60cm deep behind the tower and not going down quickly.Access is now via the Village Green. (left at fire station and left at tennis courts)The access road from the village green to surf club has suffered some damage. The road is suitable for cars/utes/4wds etc but not trucks. We ask that you park in the village green unless you are making a delivery or pickup which can’t be easily carried in a single trip in which case feel free to drive down.Services:The Community Food Hub (along with clothing and bedding) is operating again from the club.
